Grateful Heart

Yesterday marks Mat’s 2nd year in Building Bridges Therapy Center, he started when he was 2.6 years old. Thank you so much BBTC family for the love, patience and guidance because of that he made remarkable improvements emotionally, socially and academically.

As a family we often celebrate it with thanksgiving to God and to those people who served as his angels, big thanks Maam Muffy Lucas for giving us a big “yes” when I asked two years ago if there might be a chance for him to communicate like typical kids and for accepting him in your program/therapy. Teacher Shai Evangelista for handling him starting May 16-31, 2013, teacher Cherry Odal from June 3, 2013 up to present and to all BBTC teachers, teacher Joann, teacher Hazel & teacher Jimberly Lagunda, their speech pathologist consultant.

As for now, he can express himself better, can crack a joke, read, tell short stories, recite poems, composed song/poem and starting to show empathy. Still we respect his uniqueness, being super energetic, his different learning style and preferences for we believe each of us are being wired differently according to God’s purpose. As he is the greatest artist and we are his greatest masterpiece, it’s science that labels individual’s uniqueness as disorder but to the eyes of God he calls it “Special”. God bless everyone! Super big thanks to my friend, Eting for sharing BBTC to us.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:11-13, NIV).

Every Child is Unique and Will Develop at Their Own Pace

Yesterday Mat was messing our floor, I thought of stopping him but when I saw that he was doodling a dog with a leash it really made me happy. I let him continue his work of art to his preferred canvas which is the floor and cleaned it afterwards. It reminds me when I was at his age I made some doodles on our wall and I realize that was the birth of myself being an artistic individual. He’s 4-year-old, though some kids developed fine motor skills ahead, I still celebrate his milestone as I believe every child is unique and will develop at their own pace.

Like what happened to his reading skill, he started to read before he turned four. Here’s his video when Mat was 3.11 year old. Using my own illustrations, it made him eager to learn and so I customized most of his lessons. I also downloaded free worksheets at www.education.com  seen on the middle part, another customized work again at the last part the “Doe a deer… It’s also good for us parents to observe their learning style, as for him he’s a visual and kinesthetic learner.

He was a late talker, he undergone speech therapy but now his speech development went well and keeps on improving, he’s now talkative, very much thankful to his teachers. Here’s his video reciting “All Things Bright & Beautiful Poem”.

I’m so thankful to God that even though his development didn’t follow the standard developmental milestone, he manifested us that he is the creator of the universe, the giver of life and the greatest artist that no neurodevelopmental doctors can predict. As a parent it’s our duty to discover God’s given talent and to nurture it with love and support.
